Rights Holders
Ngā Kaipupuri Mana Hopunga Puoro
If you control copyright in sound recordings you can register with Recorded Music NZ. Registering with us is free and allows us to include your sound recordings in our blanket licences, which means you can earn royalties and get paid. Learn more below about how to register, what we do and managing your rights.
Register as a Recording Rights Holder
We make it easy for owners and exclusive licensees of copyright in sound recordings to collect royalties when their work is broadcast on radio or television, communicated over the internet in certain instances, and performed in public.
Understanding Your Rights & Obligations
If you wish for Recorded Music NZ to collect licence fees on your behalf then you must sign a Master Rights Agreement. This sets out the scope of rights granted to us and the key responsibilities of Recorded Music NZ and Registered Rights Holders.
Understanding Music Copyright
Recorded Music only licenses certain uses of sound recordings on behalf of its Registered Rights Holders. But there is much more for you to know as a Rights Holder and/or Recording Artist.
International Royalties
In some cases we can collect income from uses of sound recordings in other countries and pay it directly to Registered Rights Holders, via bilateral agreements with similar entities in those countries.
Distribution Policy
We distribute the revenue we collect to Recording Artists and Rights Holders once a year in accordance with our Distribution Policy.
Managing Your Recordings
The myRecordedMusic portal is our platform for managing sound recording rights in Aotearoa. The portal gives Registered Rights Holders visibility and control over their repertoire and allows you to register tracks, update details, and easily communicate with our team.
